I had a blast playing "celebrity server" at the Kookin' for Kids fundraiser for the St. Vincent Home for Children last night. I got to hang with two very fun volunteers, Mariya and Julia, and we served healthy food from Whole Foods (Vegan Sonoma Chicken Salad, fruit, and wheat crackers). We were right across from the brewery dudes giving out beer and the pulled pork people, which made for a nice balance! Talked to several lovely folks from the St. Louis media that I'm acquainted with (columnist Bill McClellan and books editor Jane Henderson, both from the Post-Dispatch), and I met others that I didn't know. A fabulous woman named Vivien and her darling friend Jeane approached excitedly as Vivien happened to be reading THE COUGAR CLUB and had it in her car! She brought it into the event for me to sign, and we took a few pics Loved that! Ed bought his height in raffle tickets, which ended up winning him a strand of pearls and Tiffany glass bowl (he gave them to me, awww!). He also bid on a concrete bird bath, which we need in our backyard, and he got it! That sucker is heavy, though!!! Thanks to Nikki and Marie Furrer for inviting me. I had a ball!

Ed and I realized we hadn't been to the Missouri Botanical Garden in two years (egads!). So despite the 100-degree weather, we put on our walking shoes and grabbed our cameras and headed down to MoBot. I missed seeing the kooky sculptures that were there in 2008, but I did love the Dale Chihully glass emanating upward (like sunbursts!) from the white gates. We saw an algae-covered turtle in the lake and lots of pretty day lilies. We stopped at every water fountain to keep hydrated, and I stuck to the shade as much as possible! Afterward, we ate at Sassafras, the wonderful organic restaurant. Then we said "ta-ta" to the Gardens for awhile, although I want to go back before Christmas and hit the gift shop!
