Did I ever mention how NOT fun I think hot, humid summer weather is? Maybe it's one of the big reasons I'm a fall girl. Though I escaped the heat for a while the other night, attending one of my hubby's hockey games at the Kirkwood rink. I love watching him play! Not only does he look super-cute all dudded up in his uniform, but he skates fast, too. The game I saw was a real thriller, with the teams tied 7-7 in the third period with only seconds to go. Unfortunately, the Orange Team (called the Piranhas in regular season) lost by a goal. Dang it. But they sure fought hard, and Ed did great! So that you'll almost feel like you were there--okay, I said "almost"--I'm sharing a few picks of my favorite Orange player, number 11.

Besides going to hockey games and updating our master bath (yay, it's finished!), I've been working on proofing copy-edits for LOVE, LIES, AND TEXAS DIPS and working with my publicists on promotion for THE DEBS' launch, now about six weeks away. One fun thing that came up was doing a book trailer. Control freak that I am, I learned how to use my Windows Movie Maker, and I created a trailer for THE DEBS...and then another funnier promo video. The trailer is on my home page, if you haven't seen it yet, and you can catch the other, called "The Debs' Ten Commandments"--my tongue-in-cheek unofficial rules of deb-dom--at Youtube. Happy viewing!

Well, Ed and I got up at the crack of dawn on Saturday, June 21, and we took the MetroLink downtown for the Komen Race for the Cure. The MetroLink was packed with Komen Racers, and it seemed to take forever at every stop so we missed getting our picture taken with Team Library this year. Dang it. But I do have some other photos to share. Once the 5k Race started and we got past the slowpokes, it was fantastic. I've been working out regularly since last July when my docs gave me the okay, so Ed and I cruised like nobody's business. When we neared the finish line with its pink balloon arch, I saw this adorable dude ready to hand me a pink rose: it was Eric Johnson from the Blues hockey team! Eeee! Since Ed's a hockey freak (player and fan) and I still appreciate cute guys (even though I'm now a married woman of over four months!), that was really neat. I spotted goalie Manny Legace just a couple yards away, too. I'm already looking forward to being part of the St. Louis Public Library's team again in 2009. Yahoo!

Whew, am I feeling worn out! I think all that revising followed by the quick return of the line-edits (which meant a tad more tweaking) followed directly by a couple of events has taken its toll. I feel like sleeping for a week straight. Though everything turned out fabulous, I must say. I had a load of fun doing the St. Louis County Library's annual Suspense night at the library headquarters on Thursday, June 5, with fellow scribes Scott Phillips, Megan Abbott and Reed Farrell Coleman. Ridley Pearson and Mike Kahn were supposed to be there as well, but had to cancel at the last minute. Somewhere around 160 folks showed up, and Borders sold books while Starbucks provided desserts and coffee. I hadn't met Reed or Megan before, but had heard great things about them and every word was true. They're terrific people and wonderful writers, so it was a pleasure to finally know them. I hadn't seen Scott since my wedding, and he was as funny as ever. In fact, all the authors--and emcee, radio personality Paul Harris--did a fantastic job in keeping the audience entertained. If every event could be like that, I'd be in heaven! Thanks SLPL, Borders and Starbucks!
After a scary storm swept through St. Louis on Friday, June 6, spawning tornadoes and causing flooding, Ed and I had to get in the car and drive down to Cape Girardeau so I could present at the Heartland Writers Conference held on the campus of Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, June 7. It was kind of a tense drive out of town, what with flooded roads redirecting us and bottleneck traffic on the highways. But we made it just fine, and we had a lovely dinner with the HWG folks, including my friend Bobbi Smith (who was the reason I was part of the program! Can't say "no" to Bobbi!). I spoke on the changing times in publishing and how it pays for a writer to stay versatile. I spilled a bit of news to the folks there that I haven't yet talked about on the web site...but stay-tuned! I promise to post about a new project soon! After I've had that loooong nap, of course.

I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief now that revisions for LOVE, LIES & TEXAS DIPS are done! Woo hoo! I've been working hard on them for the past six or seven weeks, and my brain feels like mush. But I'm incredibly pleased with the results, and I think my editor at Random House will be thrilled, too. She actually sent me the cover art for LOVE, LIES last week, and I wanted to share it with you. So check out this early sneak peek (which I think is too cute!) as the book isn't out until June of 2009.
I also wanted to show y'all a picture of our newly painted green door with the kitty-cat knocker that my friend Dina sent as a wedding gift. How cute is that? I love sprucing up the house and working in the yard, and one of the coolest things is stepping outside to find our neighborhood turtle (whom Ed and I have named "Mr. T") visiting. Ed had to stop and take Mr. T out of the middle of the road yesterday on his way home from church! I sort of feel like all is right with the world--or at least our corner of it--when Mr. T appears!
