Hi, Book Clubbers! As the founding member of a local book club, I know how much fun it is to gather with fellow readers and dish about books (particularly if there’s food involved!). If you’re thinking of starting your own discussion group but aren’t sure how, check out the Book Club Queen for tips, titles, and discussion questions in a myriad of categories.
You can also find helpful information at ReadingGroupGuides. If you’d like some recommendations, here’s the New York Times list of top five “Best Books of 2007” in fiction:
- MAN GONE DOWN by Michael Thomas
- OUT STEALING HORSES by Per Petterson
- THE SAVAGE DETECTIVES by Robert Bolaño
- THEN WE CAME TO THE END by Joshua Ferris
- TREE OF SMOKE by Denis Johnson
A few of my favorite book club reads:
- LYING AWAKE by Mark Salzman
- EVA MOVES THE FURNITURE by Margot Livesey
- SHADOW BABY by Alison McGhee
- IN GOD WE TRUST, ALL OTHERS PAY CASH by Jean Shepherd
- THE YEAR OF SILENCE by Madison Smartt Bell
- THE COLOR OF WATER by James McBride
- IRON LAKE by William Kent Krueger
For YA fans, here’s my list of juicy series books:
- TWILIGHT by Stephanie Meyer
- PRIVATE by Kate Brian
- THE LUXE by Ana Godbersen
- A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY by Libba Bray
- THE DEBS by Susan McBride (well, it’s MY list!)
What’s your group reading? Email me and tell me, so I can share your picks with other book clubs. And if you’d like to read and discuss any of my books, check my Books page for discussion questions for my mysteries
